This Church Is Goin Up, On A Sunday

The Great Travelers Rest Baptist Church in Decatur, GA knows how to turn up. For their 138th anniversary celebration, the congregation took a praise detour by dancing to a few non-gospel songs that represented each of the church’s five generations.

“A few years ago, we started an annual tradition at our church that we would celebrate every generation for our church anniversary,” the pastor explained. “Our church is a church that believes in the Lord, but we also believe that laughter is like medicine, and that if you’re a child a God you can have a good time. You don’t have to be deep all time. Some people so deep, they drown.”

In representing each generation, the church highlights “B.C.” songs that signify their jams “before Christ,” and “A.D.” song that they rock to “after deliverance.” A highlight of the celebration came from the “Busters” generation, born between 1966 and 1983. Donning all grey, they got down to their “before Christ” song, “Before I Let Go” by Frankie Beverly and Maze. And we don’t know if we’ve ever seen a church go up like this.
